App & Folder Lock Pro
Touch ID Protection for Apps & Folders
Put Touch ID in front of anything on your Mac. Protected apps are shielded the moment they open; locked folders disappear from Finder entirely — without rewriting a single file.

What it does
Two kinds of lock, one authentication flow behind both.
App lock — an overlay gate
The moment a protected app launches or comes forward, it is hidden and every display is covered by a full-screen shield. Touch ID — or the explicit Enter Password button — reveals it. Switching away relocks it instantly, and that behaviour is configurable.
Folder lock — deny and hide
A locked folder gets POSIX permissions 000 plus the Finder hidden flag: nobody can list, open or modify its contents, and it disappears from Finder. Unlocking restores it for a timed session, then it relocks on its own.
Your files are never rewritten
Folder locking changes permissions and flags — never the contents. There is no container, no re-encryption pass and no proprietary format, so there is no way for the app to corrupt or lose your data. Uninstalling cannot strand it either.
Relocks when you stop looking
Protection returns automatically on sleep, screen lock, session switch and after a configurable idle period — the moments you would otherwise forget about. Every unlock is written to a local audit log.
How it's built
Apple's own security frameworks, and nothing else.
Swift & SwiftUI
The whole app, with AppKit where the shield needs window-level control.
LocalAuthentication
Touch ID first, with the system password dialog as an explicit option and automatic fallback.
Secure Enclave
The vault token is gated by an access-control key bound to your enrolled biometric set.
Keychain Services
Stored WhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly — it never syncs and never leaves the Mac.
POSIX permissions
Folder locking uses the filesystem's own access control rather than a container.
NSVisualEffectView
Real behind-window blur for the shield, not a translucent image.

What is collected
Nothing. App & Folder Lock Pro collects no personal information, no analytics, no usage data and no identifiers. There are no accounts and no third-party SDKs.
The app has no network code
It contains no networking of any kind — no requests, no telemetry, no update checks. It cannot send your data anywhere because it has no means to. Everything happens on your Mac.
Your biometric data never reaches the app
Touch ID is handled entirely by macOS and the Secure Enclave. The app asks the system whether authentication succeeded and receives only yes or no. Your fingerprint data is never exposed to it, or to anyone.
What is stored on your Mac
- Your list of protected apps and folders, and your settings, in Application Support.
- A vault token in the Keychain, marked WhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly — it never syncs to iCloud or any other device.
- A local audit log of lock and unlock events, readable only by you.
Your files
Locking a folder changes its POSIX permissions and hidden flag. File contents are never read, copied, moved or rewritten by the app.
Children's privacy
App & Folder Lock Pro collects no data from anyone, including children.

Intended use
App & Folder Lock Pro is for protecting apps and folders on a Mac you own or administer. You must not use it to restrict access to a shared or managed machine without the owner's permission.
What this app is, and is not
It is a convenience barrier against casual access by someone using your unlocked Mac. It is not disk encryption. Folder locking relies on POSIX permissions, which an administrator, a Recovery boot, a Target Disk Mode connection or reading the drive on another machine can bypass. For protection against a determined attacker with physical access, use FileVault.
Your responsibilities
- Keep a backup. Time Machine or any backup tool is your safety net, not this app.
- Remember your Mac account password — it is the fallback when Touch ID is unavailable.
- Unlock folders before uninstalling, so nothing is left with restrictive permissions.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It is not warranted to be uninterrupted or error-free, nor to prevent every form of unauthorised access.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or any loss of or inability to access data, arising from your use of or inability to use the app. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, or affects a consumer's statutory rights.
Getting started
Install in under a minute
- Download the disk image and drag the app into Applications.
- Open it and authenticate once with Touch ID to create your vault.
- Add the apps and folders you want protected, and it starts guarding them straight away.
